Antioxidants-Better for Heart

Antioxidants are a powerful group of nutrients that protect the body from many diseases. It comprises of B-Carotene(Vitamin A), Vitamin C and Vitamin E. It prevents or reverses Heart Disease regardless of changes in the cholesterol level. Antioxidants are man-made or natural substances that may prevent or delay some types of cell damage. Vegetables and fruits are rich sources of antioxidants.

Vitamin A 
There are 2 types of vitamin A. One is found in animal products such as meat and milk which is called Retinol and the other is present in fruits & vegetables called B-Carotene. B-Carotene acts as an antioxidant. Spinach, coriander, amaranth, drumstick, cabbage, carrot, pumpkin, mangoes, papaya, peaches, tomatoes are the sources of vitamin A.

Vitamin C 
Vitamin C is also an antioxidant. It is present in Amla, citrus fruits like lemon, orange, mausambi, guava, strawberries, cauliflower, green leafy vegetables like spinach.
The daily requirement for an adult of Vitamin C is 40 mg/day. It is not stored in the body, the excess amount is lost through urine.

Vitamin E 
Vitamin E strengthens the immune system by strengthening White Blood Cells and helps in preventing Heart Disease. It also helps blood clots from forming. A Health Study showed that who took more vitamin E had a lower rate of Heart Attacks than those who consumed less vitamin E. Vitamin E is present in wheat germ, sprouts, whole grains, leafy veggies,(fruits). The daily requirement for an adult is 40 mg/day
